Who are we?
The aim of the Community of Practice (CoP) is to better understand the current services and gaps in delivery for autistic people, people with learning disabilities and neurodivergent people. It is an opportunity to share best practice, and for members to offer mutual support to help develop services within Derby and Derbyshire.
What we do
We hold monthly meetings for three distinct groups: autistic individuals, those with learning disabilities, and the wider neurodivergent community, and then a blended session of both groups. These sessions occur once a month and focus on specific topics that are relevant to the community. Meetings are open to experts by experience (EbEs), their families, professionals and anyone passionate about improving the experiences of autistic people, people with learning disabilities and neurodivergent people within our locality.

Work packages
The NHS/Joined Up Care Derbyshire sometimes allocate funding through the CoP to help fund services that help bridge the gap in service delivery for autistic individuals, people with a learning disability and people who are neurodivergent through ‘work packages’. Each work package will have a set budget and a basic overview as to what is required in relation to the issues identified.
Any allocated funding will be discussed in engagement events with the communtiy so organisations can express their interest and members can help co-produce services through sharing their feedback. Work packages are then awarded by the CoP, to services who will be best placed to deliver the model of service agreed in previous engagement events. For more information about work packages please see the information below:
